Britton, SD (WDAY TV) -- A wild pig sighting right by the North Dakota border has officials here worried about more to follow.

This tusked boar was shot near Britton, South Dakota. It took 4 bullets from a deer rifle to put it down.

Conservationists here say the animal can be extremely damaging to habitat, take food from other wildlife and carry diseases that can threaten domestic livestock. Wild boars are common in the Southern states specifically Texas.

Doug Leier with the ND Game and Fish says, "some of the things we struggle with is there are out door hunting shows that glamorize the "hogzilla" and hunting of wild boars but that actuality from a conservation standpoint and biological standpoint it's not something we want to have populate in North Dakota."

If you spot a wild boar you're asked to contact North Dakota Game and Fish.
