Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Thousands of pounds of food is headed to area food shelves, thanks to the student led "Fill the Dome" event.

This is pack up and delivery day. 150 students from area schools packed up all the food and delivered it to the Great Plains Food Bank.

More than 167,000 pounds were collected. The dollar amount isn't available yet. And food will be collected through the month.

More than 50 area schools took part this year. The goal was to collect enough food and money to provide a half-million meals.

Evan Johnson, Student Leader-Moorhead: “We set our standards pretty high and we've worked extremely hard to accomplish this. It is my hopes that people beyond the F-M community, will recognize that it is youth with passion such as ours, can accomplish something great just because they want to do something.”

Shanley and Oak Grove won the high school challenge, Carl Ben the middle school competition and Nativity collected more than any other elementary school.
