A Jamestown man is facing charges in connection with an accident near Grand Forks that killed two children and injured two others in December.

65-year-old Steven Nelson made his first court appearance Tuesday.

He's charged with two counts of negligent homicide and one count of aggravated reckless driving.

The Highway Patrol says Nelson didn't stop at a red light near the Grand Forks airport in December.

The semi he was driving struck the van Kevin Boyer Jr. was driving.

Two of the three children in the van died.

Boyer, Nelson, and another child were hurt.

Bond was set at $2,500 Tuesday.

"You negligently caused the death of Kevin Boyer III while you were driving a semi and you failed to slow down, exercise due caution and stop at a red light. Do you have any questions at all about those rights?" Judge Debbie Kleven asked Nelson Tuesday.

"Not at this time," Nelson responded.

Family members of both Nelson and the victims were in the courtroom.
