Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- So far, we have dodged the bullet, but at some point, we will be dealing with streets full of snow and parked cars that are in the way. And so, that is why the city of Moorhead has set up so called: "Snow Districts."
They are located near the Concordia and MSUM, where street parking can present challenges for plow drivers following storms.
The good news is, we haven't had to worry about narrow streets and snow packed roads. But the time will come, and Moorhead's new Snow Districts better be prepared or drivers may be picking up their cars in impound.
In a neighborhood where parking signs are as common as Chickadees, yet another new one. Around MSUM and Concordia, the city has now posted blue and white "snow district" signs.
Chad Martin/Moorhead Public Works: "12 blocks north and south, 13 blocks east and west 144 blocks. A pretty good area."
An effort to educate students and the neighborhoods about a goal. Blizzards are not the time to wonder about parking restrictions.
Martin: "You have more troubles as the streets get narrower and narrower."
In the past, the city of Moorhead would give a pass, during a storm to those parked illegally. Not anymore.
Martin: "The theory is more aggressive parking enforcement after an event and get it cleared out easier."
Jeffrey Lorsung is an NDSU student who is taking a chemistry class at MSUM. Time and parking close to campus. Parking are always an issue, and so having fewer options....
Jeffrey Lorsung: "Definitely could be a hassle on getting to class on time and stuff like that."
The signs tell refers Moorhead residents to a website. That is not live for two weeks.
People can also use the city's Facebook and follow them on Twitter to learn more about the specifics of the snow plowing plan.
