Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- It's shaping up to be another busy December for the Bison football team. The defending FCS national champions got the official word today that they'll be the overall number one seed in this year's postseason.

It means NDSU won't have to leave Fargo, unless it's another return trip to Frisco. It also, gives the Bison a much needed bye week to heal up some bumps and bruises. They haven't had a Saturday off since mid September.

Joe Lund, NDSU Sr. Center, says, "For me and a couple of the offensive linemen and I know the linebackers just to get healed up and rested. Another couple of days really does play an important role of having that extra spark in this next section of the playoffs."

Grand Olson says, "It's definitely an honor to be the number one seed, but we're just happy to be in the playoffs. Like we learned two years ago, anybody can beat anybody. We came in 7-4 and we had quite a run there. We could've very easily won the championship and last year we were the number two overall seed and won the championship."

The Bison will host the winner of the first round matchup between South Dakota State and Eastern Illinois on December first.

The top four seeds all get byes, that includes Eastern Washington, Montana State, and Old Dominion. 3 teams from both the Big Sky and the Missouri Valley make the 20-team field.
