Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- Thanksgiving is getting kicked off a little early this week at the Salvation Army in Grand Forks.

Volunteers dished out 16 turkeys, pies and all the fixings to feed about 300 people tonight.

The Salvation Army says smaller sized families are especially grateful for the meal, because they don't have to cook a large feast for just a few people.

Linda Fjellman, Salvation Army Mayor, "It's a nice way to say thank you to the community too, have them come in. It's nice too, if you don't want to make a turkey on Thanksgiving, we have one made right here for you, and you don't even have to do the dishes."

Along with serving up holiday meals, the Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign is in full swing.
