A turkey basket drive feeds more than 700 families in Grand Forks

Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- More than 700 families in the Grand Forks area are now prepped with all of the fixings for a happy Thanksgiving dinner. Mission accomplished for the Turkey Basket Drive, now in its 33rd year.

Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- More than 700 families in the Grand Forks area are now prepped with all of the fixings for a happy Thanksgiving dinner. Mission accomplished for the Turkey Basket Drive, now in its 33rd year.

An extra 20-thousand dollars....

"Happy Thanksgiving"

...Will help the less fortunate in the community this holiday season.

Courtney: "It's the least we can do."

Cars filled with families lined the U-N-D campus just waiting to pick up a meal that they say some take for granted.

Courtney: "The turnout is phenomenal this year."

(do you feel like you're being taken care of this thanksgiving?) "yes we are."

Tommy Van Norman: "I didn't really understand (what it meant) until I saw the families that come thru the impact we have on them."

It's bags like this, which give families like this more than just a thanksgiving meal, it's a feeling of being cared for.

"it's good service."

Tears of joy filled the eyes of some receiving meals, their thanks also touched the students.

Courtney: "They're very appreciate to get it and we're very happy to help."

Tommy Van Norman: "A really good feeling, I've gotten emails, I've talked on the phone with people who are getting baskets and those people are crying they're just so grateful that they're getting this opportunity to have a Thanksgiving meal."

And Mortar board students say, It's all worth it.

"It all adds up."

"here you go!"

Each basket costs about 40 dollars to put together.
