Man is arrested for stealing a pickup and driving it into a house in Fargo

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- A man is in custody after stealing a truck and ramming it into a house early this morning.

31-year-old Ayub Abukar faces a list of charges, including DUI and theft of a motor vehicle.

The victim's pickup was sitting in a parking lot over here by Oak Manor, unlocked, with the key in the ignition, and running.

That's when police say Abukar stole it. The truck's owner and a friend followed Abukar in a car and cornered him around University and Harwood.

But Abukar rammed into their car, and sped away. He drove across lawns in the Harwood Groves neighborhood and eventually slammed into a brick house.

He was then arrested.

Lt. Joel Vettel/Fargo Police Dept.: "We certainly are concerned when people utilize this type of behavior in our community. It certainly is shocking when somebody chooses to steal a vehicle in the first place, but to drive drunk and ultimately put the public at risk certainly is a concerning aspect."

The pick-up was heavily damaged, but there was no damage to the house. Abukar was driving with a suspended license.
