Fargo man arrested after stealing pickup he smashed into south Fargo home

FARGO – A Fargo man was arrested early today on suspicion of stealing a pickup truck that ended up smashing into a south Fargo home.

FARGO – A Fargo man was arrested early today on suspicion of stealing a pickup truck that ended up smashing into a south Fargo home.

According to a police report on the incident:

A pickup was stolen about 1 a.m. after the driver left the vehicle running in the parking lot of a veterinary clinic at 1401 Oak Manor Ave. S.

The owner of the pickup then drove around with a friend looking for the pickup, finding it in the area of Harwood Drive and University Drive South.

The owner of the pickup pulled in front of the stolen pickup to block its path and got out of his vehicle along with his friend to confront the other driver.

The driver of the pickup initially drove rapidly in reverse, but then accelerated forward and struck the open door of the vehicle blocking its path.

The door slammed shut with such force people in the neighborhood called police to report what they thought was gunfire.

Shortly after, police officers found the stolen pickup driving across lawns in the 400 block of Harwood Drive South.

The pickup then struck a house at 1102 32nd Ave. S., and officers arrested the driver, identified by police as Ayub H. Abukar, 31, of Fargo.

Police said Abukar was being held in the Cass County Jail on suspicion of aggravated reckless endangerment; possessing a stolen vehicle; theft of a motor vehicle; fleeing officers in a motor vehicle; DUI and driving under suspension.
