Rothsay, MN (WDAY TV) - The Rothsay district too is looking at building a new school.

It wants to replace its current school which is a hodge-podge of additions, the oldest part dating to 1904.

The cafeteria is too small according to the school and parts of the building do not meet fire code.

The cost of a new school would be about $24 million dollars, 7 million more than the renovations to bring it to code. But some say the old school will still have some life.

Warren Schmidt, Superintendent Rothsay: “We are looking at utilizing part of the old facility as a community center and then we are proposing that we finance a building project for the fire department immediately next door to the gymnasium.”

The vote of the referendum is December 17th.
