Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's a big moment for the NDSU softball team, who signed its first local product since the Bison moved up to Division I in North's Courtney Johnson.

Johnson was an all-state player this past season for the Spartans hitting 576 with 5 home runs and 35 RBI and opened some eyes after a fantastic summer.

Darren Mueller, NDSU Softball Coach: “She came to a camp of ours; and Jamie working with defense, she came up and said I think she can play for us right now just defensively doing some good things, year before that you saw the raw ability that was there.”

Several other local athletes made it official today; Kira Larson to Nebraska, North's Tommy Walton will wrestle at NDSU, Red River's Hadley Steffen and Wadena's Emily Myron to NDSU to play volleyball, and another Hawley standout Drew Sannes will play hoops at MSUM.
