Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- What do you do with flood buyout property? This is something Clay county is trying to figure out.
The county owns over 30 properties, several of them here in the old Crestwood Neighborhood. Because a portion of the buyout money came from the D-N-R, the land must stay in county or township control, and cannot even be leased.
Here, just further south of Moorhead, the county has about 15 acres from another buyout, much of which is farmland.
The county thinks the land should still be open to farming.
Tim Magnusson with Clay County Planning says, "we'll get something down to the Attorney General and maybe we can actually sell or lease or rent some of the extraneous property that we have, to people that could put it to use."
Clay county has one more property they hope to buyout north of Moorhead.
