Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Crews are making strides with a project to protect Fort Abercrombie. The river bank is eroding, threatening the site.

This project is not going to be quick for the Army Corps of Engineers, where it can just get in, get out. Crews will be working on this crumbling river bank until early next year.

Fort Abercrombie already lost one foundation to erosion.

To prevent more damage, the Army Corps of Engineers is making the Red River's bank more stable and secure.

The Fort says it's fully in support of the project. It's been working closely with corp project leaders.

The project costs more than $750,000.
