Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - On the gridiron, the Bison can clinch the Missouri Valley title outright and Illinois State this weekend, but they'll have to beat the Redbirds without one of their best defensive players.
Head Coach Craig Bohl announced that junior defensive lineman Leevon Perry will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Perry suffered the injury on this play Saturday against the Jackrabbits. When an SDSU offensive lineman chop blocked him at the tail end of a running play. Perry returned in the 2nd quarter, but never played after half-time. It's a tough loss for a group that's already without standout safety Colten Heagle.
Craig Bohl, NDSU Head Coach: “You know, there is different adversities that you're going to encounter throughout the year. And our guys all recognize that. We have really excellent leadership and energy. It's not that we're completely well stocked with defensive lineman. But, we've got quite a few of them that we rotate. Leevonn had a great presence. You saw it on the opening play of the game, but as the game went along I thought our guys that came into play did a really nice job. So, it will be important that that defensive front pick up the slack.”
Bohl says red-shirt freshman defensive tackle Brain Schaetz will return from a knee injury this weekend.
The latest FCS Coaches poll is out the Bison stay put at number one, Montana State is second.
