Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- When Marcus Williams arrived at NDSU in the fall of 2009; he had to sit out a year and get his grades in order, paying his own way to go to school that year. That might be the last time Williams ever sees the sidelines.
"Pass is picked off,...it's Marcus Williams!"
That name has been feared by offensive coordinators and quarterbacks
in the Missouri Valley for the last three seasons. Williams has racked
up 15 career interceptions in just 37 games during his two and a half years
at NDSU, delivering on a promise he made to his dad..
Marcus: "When I first came here,he told me how good he wanted me to be,
he said you have an opportunity to go here and show what I can do."
Bohl: "I don't think there's a more dynamic player in all of FCS football and I don't know if Ive been around a guy at any level on the defensive standpoint on the game that he has."
Williams is one interception shy of tying a 43 year old record at NDSU, set by Steve Krumrei from 1967-69, much like Williams he did it in three years.
Williams: "Records are meant to be broken. I'm sure if I break the
record it's going to be broken some other time, I hope I can break the record, if not it's no big deal."
What is a big deal is how opposing offenses respect Williams; there are have been entire games when teams don't throw to his side of the
field.
Williams: "I prepare myself mentally knowing I'm not going to get the
ball thrown at me; but i have to go in and prepare and make sure he
doesn't catch the ball."
And on the off chance that his man does catch the ball, Williams says
that's not a big deal.
Williams: "It actually makes me happy, gives them confidence they can throw to my side and I know I'll get another one."
One of Williams 15 picks came against this weekend's opponent SDSU in 2010; his 4 pick 6's are an NDSU record.
