Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) -- There are few teams in Minnesota that have the football tradition that Detroit Lakes can brag about, the Lakers won three championships in a four year stretch in the early 90's.

They racked up another in 2001, but it's been a long 11 years since.

Saturday will mark D.L.'s first state trip since 2002! This trip is perhaps

made more impressive considering the Lakers lost Division 1 players off last year's team, but they're unbeaten aiming to restore some tradition.

Michael Herzog, Detroit Lakes Sr. Quarterback, says, "I think as a team we knew we were a good football team, we just had to go out and prove it. We lost some guys last year but we lose guys at the highschool level every year. I think deep down we knew we could play this well and we just wanted to show everybody that we could."

Detroit Lakes head coach, Flint Motschenbacher, says, "The biggest thing is that this is a football team, they are all close. Michael gets a lot of the pub and stuff but we got a lot of guys pulling a lot of weight this year. 4A is awful tough, there is about half a dozen really good teams in there. It's just about what we have to do now, it's the game in front of us, we just have to worry about that and advance in."
