FARGO – A 30-year-old man who was seriously injured this morning when he was struck by a train has been identified by Fargo police as Robert Lamar Brown.

According to police:

About 6:50 a.m., workers on a BNSF train noticed a man on the tracks in the 4200 block of Main Avenue and sounded the train's whistle in warning as they attempted to stop. However, the man did not leave the tracks and was struck by the train.

At the time he was struck the man was lying perpendicular across the tracks, Police Lt. Joel Vettel said.

The train was moving at about 22-25 mph, according to Vettel.

Brown was taken to a local hospital with injuries to his head and torso. His condition is unknown, Vettel said, adding it was likely Brown would be transported to a Twin Cities hospital if his condition could be stabilized.
