Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Ever think of looking to sports or sales to pick the President? History shows there are some strange connections to election results.
And while the latest political polls show President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney in a virtual dead heat, these predictors tell a different story.
They may seem like strange superstitions but if presidential polls aren't for you, try looking to several myths to guess a winner.
The first is the longstanding Redskins Rule, holding true since 1936 despite one slip up, and based on a game that played out Sunday in Washington, when the Panthers came to town.
As it goes, if the Redskins win their last home game before election day, the party currently in power stays.
Meaning the team's latest defeat signals a change in seat for the president. Bad news for President Obama
The biggest game in baseball brings yet another. This year, with Governor Romney striking out.
Legend has it- if an American League team takes home the World Series title, a republican takes office. So last month's loss for the Tigers means a win for the president.
Moving to the world of retail, Halloween mask sales have accurately predicted the winner of the last four elections - the president out selling Mr. Romney by about 30 percent this season.
7-Eleven found similar results, leaving it up to coffee drinkers to decide. The store's "7-Election" lets people vote by buying a blue or red coffee cup. Showing Governor Romney down by nearly 20 percent.
Some odd indicators that often bring reliable results come Election Day.
In Fargo, Quality Bakery holds its own test between President Obama and Governor Romney inspired cookies. So far, Governor Romney is ahead 395 to 167.
