Man killed in fatal hunting accident in Bemidji was a safe hunter

Bemidji, MN (WDAY TV) -- The Bemidji hunter shot and killed during Minnesota's firearm deer opener, is a cautious, safe hunter.
That from 66-year-old Don Bixby's daughter. She says the former logger raised his family to be careful hunters.
Bixby was hunting for the first time in years, when he was shot while standing next to a pickup. The incident happened about 9 yesterday morning, on a plot of public land just 9 miles northeast of Bemidji.
The Sheriff's Office says the suspect, 64-year-old Phillip Nyland, was questioned and released.
