FARGO – The 2012 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award program recently announced that 20 of North Dakota’s top scholar-athletes are state finalists.
On Monday, one male and one female finalist from each state will be named state winners of the award.
Female state finalists are Rachael Sakry, Milnor; Ashtin Freije, Edmore, Kallie Frappier, Glenfield; Morgan Milbrath, Minot, Kelsey Dockter, Steele;
Mikayla Forness, Bismarck; Ashley Bentz, Elgin; Kendra Heier, Ray; Whitney Wallette, Belcourt; and Samantha Cottingham, Underwood.
Male state finalists are Todd Selzler, Harvey; Nathan Mertens, Devils Lake; Paul Peterson Jr., Larimore; Tysen Rosenau, Carrington; Cole Rehovsky, Park River;
Jeremy Wirtz, Underwood; Abraham Roehrich, Stanley; Kasey Dressler, Richardton; Austin Mack, Dickinson, and Trenton Ptacek, Oakes.
The award recognizes outstanding high school seniors who excel in athletics, academics and community leadership.
Of the 45,000 seniors who applied for the program nationwide, 196 were from North Dakota.
Of the state winners, 12 will be chosen as national finalists and go on to compete to be named national winners in New York City on Dec. 7.
