Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Police say 23-year-old Lauren Kandt neglected to use a crosswalk at a South Fargo intersection when she was hit by an oncoming car.
The accident happened just before midnight near the intersection of 39th Street and 32nd Avenue in South Fargo, when a woman was trying to cross the street.
Michael Lovejoy/Fargo Police: "(she) was not crossing in a crosswalk. There's a lot of people who tend to cross mid block and not utilize the crosswalk, it's very, very important that we utilize crosswalks, that's why they're there. Most pedestrian crashes occur mid block and it's just a very, very dangerous thing to do."
Lauren Kandt of Fargo was hit by a minivan near the Flying J Travel Plaza.
Police have not charged the driver, but are working to reconstruct the accident to figure out what happened.
Lovejoy: "What we're going to do is we're going to map the roadway and the evidence with a laser tracking system know as a total station, I'll take that information back to the police department and put it into a computer and use software to create a visual map."
Police would not confirm where Kandt was coming from, but do say she had been drinking. Kandt is still being treated at Essentia Health in Fargo with extremely severe injuries.
Police say the accident is still under investigation.
