West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- A West Fargo couple is one step closer to their dream of creating what they believe to be the world's most energy efficient car.
Gail and Ernie Brookins are now the owners of patented technology that they say could solve the world's fuel crisis and stop dependence on foreign oil.
They invention is a hydraulic torque converter that could turn new or used vehicles into hybrids.
Once installed, the cars would run mainly off of hydraulic pressure, using about 75 percent less fuel. They say their product is perfect for busses and semi trucks.
Ernie Brookins, the Warp Speed Torque Drive inventor, says, "your gas, your engine never has to rev up to change the speed of the vehicle, it's done by the slower it makes one of these pumps go."
The part would cost about 55 thousand dollars and they expect to start selling in about six months.
