New York City (WDAY TV) -- The 2012 New York City marathon is a "go," despite the devastation left behind by Hurricane Sandy. That storm left several local runners waiting and wondering.
Bismarck's Jim Tyler is excited to line up with thousands of others this Sunday. 45-thousand runners were expected before Hurricane Sandy. Now organizers aren't sure how many to expect.
Tyler and at least four other runners from Bismarck have decided to go ahead with plans to run. He says although organizers and mayor Bloomberg are taking some criticism for holding the race, there are also good reasons to
run it.
Tyler says, "I think New Yorkers are resilient. They've proven that over the
last fifteen years and before they just rally when things go wrong. They've been sending us information about charities that we should consider if we are running it, really helping out the New Yorkers so they're doing the right things in terms of putting it in perspective."
Organizers say they will make sure the running of the race doesn't affect recovery efforts in the city. The race begins at 8 am Sunday
