New study says scary movies have a hidden benefit

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - If you don't like working out, you may love this: A new study shows watching scary movies can help make your waistline skinny.

A Halloween themed study by the University of Westminster found that watching a frightening flick can burn almost 200 calories.

The terror scenes help to get adrenaline pumping, increasing pulse and blood flow, and ultimately burning fat.

The Shining came in on top, where viewers burned about 184 calories, followed by Jaws at 161 calories.

Jodi Roper, Courts Plus Group Fitness Director: “Watching movies will increase your heart rate and in turn increase your blood flow and the oxygen that runs thru your body but it probably increase the calorie burn a little bit but not as much as they probably say.”
