Local students get creative when decorating pumpkins

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- It is a unique pumpkin decorating contest, where characters from books come to life.

The library media specialist asked for entries. She got 110 decorated pumpkins. All of a character from the students' favorite book.

Everything from Curious George, to Harry Pottter, to a Were Wolf, to Captain Underpants.

The students used their recess time to decorate their pumpkins.

Twana Weiler, the library media specialist, says, "It's their own creativity. And this is something they didn't have to do. Completely voluntary. And they just took off with whatever inspired them, to create what I consider to be incredible works of art."

Some of the pumpkins were donated by area businesses.
