Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- 5 highly trained - Red Cross volunteers from our area took off for the east coast today.

This as Hurricane Sandy is about to wreak havoc on the coast. The volunteers are on a 2 week deployment. They'll be in New Jersey to help with shelter operations.

Forecasters are unsure where Sandy will make landfall, but say it could rival the worst East Coast storm on record.

Wind and torrential rains could extend for hundreds of miles, causing widespread flooding and power outages.
