Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) -- 48 thousand North Dakotans are living with this disease.
The " Step Out -- Walk to Stop Diabetes" is an effort to help those suffering. More than 350 people laced up their sneakers for the fundraiser.
Money raised goes to the American Diabetes Association. Organizers say participants are changing the future, making a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected.
Stephanie Chimeziri, Associate Director of the ND Diabetes Association, says, "It's very inspirational it's very moving, when you look out into the crowd you see a sea of red t-shirts and red hats, those are our red striders, the people who live with diabetes and they're our inspiration for being here today."
Organizers hope to raise 70-thousand dollars.
