Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Local Soldiers are saying goodbye to their families tonight, as they prepare to deploy to Guantanamo Bay.

About 30 members of the 191st Military Police Company had their send-off ceremony today. It is the first time North Dakota Guard soldiers will deploy to Cuba in more than one-hundred years.

The troops will be charged with the care and custody of detainees, including those convicted by military commission.

Sgt. Ronnie Garza with the 191st Military Police Company, says, "i've got a lot of emotions going on, but I understand we have a mission to do, and we gotta do what we got to do."

The unit leaves tomorrow for Fort Bliss, Texas.
