Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Trouble for farmers, the Red River Valley's sugar beet crop is behind schedule.
It's the odd man out this season, every other crop in the region has remained way ahead of normal. Harvesting began again yesterday, after more than a week with no lifting action in beet fields because of wet conditions.
This year, the preliminary part of the harvest started earlier than ever before, but snow and rains this month have frustrated the process. East Grand Forks, Crookston and Hillsboro factory districts all have 12 to 20 percent of their crop left.
The biggest concern now is frost damage to the beets in the ground.
