Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Smoking could soon be a thing of the past. According to a Forum Communications poll, most North Dakotans favor a state-wide smoking ban.

Most North Dakota voters want to clear the air. A Forum Communications poll shows 61 percent support Measure 4, an initiative that would ban smoking in public places throughout the state. 36 percent oppose the measure, leaving roughly 4 percent undecided.

Measure 4 would prohibit smoking in all indoor workplaces. That includes bars, tobacco shops, and motel rooms. People must also stay at least 20 feet away from buildings when smoking, or pay up: violations would carry a $50 fine.

And before you invest in an electronic cigarette, not so fast: those are included in the measure.

500 potential voters were surveyed from October 12th through 15th.
