Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- As the election gets closer, political flyers are putting extra weight onto mail carriers' backs.

Fargo carriers say their loads have doubled thanks to political mailouts.

Most residents are receiving about five flyers a day, mainly from North Dakota's Senate candidates.

In addition to adding on pounds, the increase also slows down delivery time.

Jerome Miller, Deputy Inspection Manager, says, "our concern is really from a life safety standpoint of it because we had signs in the middle of roads where they had medians in the middle so they were out blocking traffic, vision for people coming to corners, around schools where kids are being dropped off."

Signs were paid for by a Kansas City based super PAC not affiliated with Berg or Heitkamp's campaigns. Whoever put them out could face criminal infractions and fines.
