COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. (AP) — The gunman who chased his wife through the parking lot of a Cottage Grove strip mall and killed her has also died.
Cottage Grove's director of public safety, Craig Woolery, says police responded to a report of a man chasing a woman and firing multiple gunshots Thursday about 3:30 p.m. Woolery says they found the woman dead inside a Jimmy John's sandwich shop and the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he later died.
Family members identify the man as 22-year-old Chevel Richard and the victim as Tensia Richard. The gunman's father, Dale Richard, tells the Star Tribune the couple had two sons, ages 5 months and three.
One of the gunshots shattered a glass door at Anytime Fitness in the strip mall, but no one inside was injured.
