Pelican Rapids, MN (WDAY TV) -- Authorities say the murder plot involved robbing the people inside a home, taking cash and drugs then setting fire to the house.
The planned weapons were everything from a crowbar and baseball bat to bear spray and a gun.
3 of the 8 involved are juveniles. Here are the other 5. 36 year old Kimberly Ryan, 18 year old Kevin Forer, 22 year old Branagen Theisen and 19 year old Brandtly Hutson are all from Fergus Falls. 18 year old Zack Stewart is from Erhard. All of them are either charged or facing conspiracy to commit murder.
This case has specifics that can make you cringe. The fact 3 of the people involved are juveniles, the list of weapons they planned on using, and the fact this was all over 200 dollars and 2 ounces of marijuana.
This is the Pelican Rapids home where the group, dressed in black clothes and black bandanas, pulled up to on October 4th. Police say The weapons they were packing; a crow bar, knife, machete, bear spray, metal baseball bat, gun and a can of gas.
Authorities say the plan was 2 juveniles go into the home to buy marijuana, they were supposed to use the bear spray, then the other 6 would come in and finish the job. To cover up the murder they were then going to douse the place in gas and set it on fire.
The odd part, initially in this case these people were the victims.
Michelle Eldien/Asst. Otter Tail Co. Attorney: "It started with the one player out of Pelican area and then when you look into it, it led to all the other people that actually were from Fergus Falls that went there for a different crime."
Authorities say the plot was spoiled almost immediately when Fikret Saric noticed a knife on one of the juveniles. Saric drew a gun, ran outside and shot one of the cars, It lead to a 2 car chase and that's when the assailants turned victims called 911. It'd be a move that'd eventually lead to all 8 arrests.
Kile Bergren/Fergus Falls Police Chief: "the more interviews we had with these people the more information came out about this plot."
Is this something you think the public should be worried about? We're talking about murder plots for a couple of hundred dollars and 2 ounces of marijuana.
Kile Bergren: "I think the important part for the public is all these individuals are known to one another. These certainly aren't random acts of violence."
Saric, the initial target in this case, is charged with attempted murder for firing a gun at the Fergus Falls people. As for the juveniles in that group, prosecutors are looking at trying them as adults.
