Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo Police are taking aim at distracted drivers. This week, additional officers will be out looking for people behind the wheel who aren't paying attention.

Violations go beyond texting. Talking on the phone, applying makeup, or being distracted by passengers could also get you pulled over.

Police say many fender benders, especially in congested parts of town, are caused by people who take their eyes off the road.

Sgt. Ryan Dorrheim, Fargo Police: “Be really cognizant of what's ahead of you. It is all of our responsibilities, not just the police department, but our entire community, to driver responsibly, especially with the inclement weather we're expecting.”

In 2010, more than 3,000 people died in crashes that involved a distracted driver.
