Oxbow, ND (WDAY TV) -- The Mayor of Oxbow says he's willing to explore building a ring dike around the city. But there are conditions.
The golf course. And most of the homes stay put.
The Flood Diversion Authority voted today to ask the Army Corps to work with Oxbow, Hickson and Bakke on whether or not a ring dike should be built to protect them from the effects of a new Red river diversion.
Mayor Jim Nyhof says if changes have to be made to the golf course, the course designer must be consulted.
Mayor Jim Nyhof says, "maintain the 18 whole golf course, and all the residential properties we have now. They may be in different locations, but we're going to maintain the city as it exists."
Nyhof said if a ring dike is built, about 40 of the 100 plus homes in Oxbow, would have to be bought out or relocated. The corps said a decision on whether a ring dike should be part of diversion plans should be made in December.
