Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The stretch run officially begins for the Bison this Saturday as NDSU welcomes back an old rival in Dale Lennon and his new team, Southern Illinois.

The Salukis have saved their season in the last month, sweeping their last three games against Illinois State, Northern Iowa and Youngstown, all presumed better teams than SIU. They also feature the 3-4 defense, something that bugged NDSU last year in holding the defending champs to their lowest point total of the season.

Craig Bohl, 3-1 Record vs. SIU: “We struggled last year. It took a flea-flicker to get things opened up, execute better, be balanced and open our offense up. Going to play solid defense, not turning the ball over much. Formula they had at UND, it's working well. If you list favorite teams in the conference: Northern Iowa, Illinois State and Youngstown; they just defeated all three of them.”

Bohl added that two starters Ryan Smith and Josh Colville will return Saturday after missing last week with concussions.

The latest coaches poll has NDSU moving up to No. 3 this week, Eastern Washington stays No. 1, Georgia Southern up to No. 2.
