ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Ten years after former Sen. Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash, many of his former staffers say they are still trying to live up to his ideals.
Marge Baker spent two years working in Wellstone's Washington office, and says it felt more like family than any other she had worked in.
Baker tells Minnesota Public Radio that after Wellstone's death, she thought hard about how to make her next step one that he would respect. She now works on policy for the group People for the American Way, on issues such as legalizing same-sex marriage and pushing for more liberal judges and Supreme Court justices.
Baker keeps a framed green Wellstone campaign poster in her office as a reminder of the senator.
