Minnesota (WDAY TV) -- Student loan debt has hit a record high, and Minnesota students are among those hurting the most.
A new study from the Institute for College Access and Success shows that Minnesota ranks third for highest student debt. MSUM President Edna Szymanksi says the high student debt is because of a decrease in higher education funding from the state.
To help, they refer some to community colleges, focus on earlier graduation, and help students choose the right careers.
MSUM President, Edna Szymanski, says, "to try and refine our programs and curricula, so that when students do graduate - with that debt, mind you, which we hope will be less - that they will be very well prepared, though, for good jobs that our community needs."
The average amount a Minnesota student owes for college is 29-thousand seven hundred dollars.
