Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- With most of kids in the area out of school today and tomorrow for teacher workshops. You may have already heard the dreaded, I'm bored.
Your kids may be headed for video games or apps to pass the time. In our weekly app series, a look at an app that can teach them life lessons on a serious problem plaguing schools.
1.6 million kids are teased, made fun of, or excluded in school at least once a week. For one hundred thousand kids .. The bullying is too much to go to school.
This week a group of Minnesota teachers and doctors launched a new app that hopes to bring that number down. It's called the Awesome Upstander.
The Upstander is the opposite of a bystander, taking action to prevent bullying.
Your kids have to use fast fingers to rack up points and get to new levels as you learn how to identify bullies, how to get between the victim and the bully, and how to put an end to the bullying.
The goal is to get kids to work together to stick up for their peers in the game, and then in real life. Your kids learn the valuable lesson of strength in numbers without realizing they're even learning.
The Awesome Upstander costs 99 cents and is available on both the apple and android markets.
