(WDAY TV) -- President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney got a little more animated in their second presidential debate. The debate on Long Island was a town hall style event with undecided voters asking the questions.

The candidates had plenty to say on questions ranging from job creation to gas prices to tax cuts and sparred over oil.

Romney: "I had a question and the question was how much did you cut them by?"

Obama: "You want me to answer."

Romney: "how much did you cut them by?"

Obama: "I'm happy to answer the question."

That was just one of a number of pointed exchanges between the candidates as they pointed fingers and often talked over one another. That exchange came after Romney accused the president of cutting permits and licenses for oil drilling on federal lands. He claims the increase in oil production in the country is thanks to North Dakota's Bakken oil field, in spite of the president.

Romney: "what was his participation there? The administration brought a criminal action against the people drilling up there for oil, this massive new resource we have. And what was the cause? 20 or 25 birds were killed and they brought out a migratory bird act to go after them on a criminal basis."

Obama: "Very little of what Governor Romney just said is true. We've opened up public lands. We're actually drilling more on public lands than in the previous administration and the previous president was an oil man."

Critics named Romney the winner of the first debate. This time around, early word is Obama won the night. Their 3rd and final debate is next Monday in Florida.
