Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Some Fargo Democrats running for office are backing a plan to eliminate the state sales tax on clothing.
District 46 Democratic House candidates Diane Hill and Lee Myxter, and senate candidate George Sinner said they would fight to eliminate the tax if elected.
There is currently no sales tax on clothing in Minnesota or Montana. Their proposal would only eliminate the 5-percent state portion of the tax and keep the local portion.
George Sinner says, "we see this as a win-win for both the retail business community, the retail clothing community and the people of North Dakota. We feel that business will be increased and the sales of clothing will be increased."
At 6, District 46 republicans respond to the proposition, and how it might affect local businesses.
