FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Defense says the remains of a missing Air Force colonel from North Dakota have been identified and will be buried as part of a group with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

The department says the remains of Col. Wendell Keller of Fargo will be buried with those of Air Force Capt. Virgil K. Meroney III of Fayetteville, Ark. A date for the ceremony was not announced.

Keller and Meroney were part of a crew of an F-4D Phantom II aircraft that disappeared following a mission on March 1, 1969, in Laos.

The department says the remains were found during a 17-year investigation of the area that ran from 1994 until 2011. The remains were identified with military ID cards, dental records and other evidence.
