Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - There's plenty of excitement this afternoon at Nemzek Hall this afternoon as the MSU Moorhead men's basketball team opened practice for the new season.

Chad Walthall begins his third season at the helm of the Dragons coming off an historic year.

MSUM ended a 47 year drought last year making the national tournament for the first time since 1965. The Dragons though have a revamped team just three have ever played for MSUM.

Alex Novak, MSUM Sr. Center: “I think we can scale up expectations. We did lose a lot of guys, but the guys we have coming back have a lot of experience on the floor. I think that will help the younger guys and get them playing a higher caliber then they would if they would have come in earlier.”

Chad Walthall, MSUM 3rd Year Head Coach: “We don't mind the expectations. We might have surprised some people last year. But, we thought we had a good basketball team going in. Now the challenge is making sure that we remain there and that we set a standard of where we should be every year and that's contending for a championship in our league, contending for an NCAA tournament berth.”
