Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- The price is always right when you pick how much you pay. Today, a local church held a rummage sale with no prices - just free will donation.

It's a special morning every year, as Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fargo transforms into a thrift store.

Margaret Dunham/Fargo Resident: "I've never been disappointed, it's just the most wonderful sale."

Calvin Samek/Fargo: "This is the first time I've been here, actually, I think it's great."

And what could be better? It's a sale with no pricetags.

That's because the Great Give Away allows people to take what they want, and give what they want.

Andrea Steinmetz/Co-chair: "So, this way, it gives some people a chance to get their winter coats, their household goods, kids clothes, toys, at an affordable cost."

All of the items are gently used and donated from members of the church or community.

Steinmetz: "It doesn't put any pressure on somebody, like say, "ok, there's five dollars on this plate, I wish I could have that, but I don't have five dollars." Maybe they only have a nickel. And they put in the nickel, and we're fine with that."

One volunteer who was here when the church started this event said a lot of people at the time didn't think it would work. And now, 27 years later, they've proved the doubters wrong.

Making the event even sweeter, the money raised goes to various charities...

Dunham: "It's just wonderful. It really helps the world. I mean, it's nice to be able to go home with stuff that you ordinarily couldn't afford."

This year, donations go to Nokomis, Luther Hall, and Churches United.
