Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- College students and grade school students are teaming up to help feed the hungry.

Twenty Concordia students and a fifth grade classroom from Washington elementary in Fargo sorted and packaged 500 pounds of edible beans. The beans will be distributed to four local food pantries.

The college students are all education majors, getting some hands on teaching experience. The fifth graders are getting a lesson in service learning.

Olivia Decker, a Concordia student, says, "They're not only learning how to help people, they're learning about combining beans, they're even using fractions, measuring cups...to work with math."

The beans were donated by NDSU. They were chosen for the project specifically for their high protein content, something the food pantries need for their clients.
