Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- The Diversion Authority is giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to further study the possibility of retention.
The authority approved giving 500-thousand-dollars to the Red River Basin Commission to look more into the idea of retention.
The Commission will use the money to look at and present all the possible places for retention to the authority. The authority can then prioritize ideal retention spots.
But the Army Corps of Engineers reiterated that retention will not solve all the problems.
Col. Michael Price with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, says, "Retention is very difficult to do. We've tried retention projects in the past in a lot of basins in North Dakota. Everyone says, retention is great, but not on my property."
A decision on a whether to look further into a possible ringdike around Oxbow, Hickson and Bakke is expected to be made at the next Diversion Authority meeting on November 8th.
