Timberwolves doing more than playing ball in Fargo

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's a dream for those who love the Timberwolves . The chance to catch a game and watch their favorite players, right in their own backyard.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's a dream for those who love the Timberwolves . The chance to catch a game and watch their favorite players, right in their own backyard.

But the team's rare visit benefits a lot more than just die-hard fans.

Usually, we're forced to drive 4 hours to see our favorite Minnesota teams. Not the other way around.

So the Timberwolves made the most of their visit, before they tip off against the Indiana Pacers tonight.

Greg Stiemsma, Timberwolves Player: "Up here is Timberwolves country and that's pretty obvious."

And when the Wolves came to town, Fargo took it seriously.

The Holiday Inn hosted the team. Hard to keep secret. Their presence raised a few eyebrows.

Megan Kvilsen, Holiday Inn Sales Manager: "Some people did notice when you see a 6'10" player walk around."

Prep took months. It turns out, getting 60 king-size rooms ready for professional basketball players is no easy task.

Kvilsen: "They all have specifics they do need, like being on different floors, and different sizes of rooms."

Stiemsma: "It's not what we're used to, but we're not too picky either."

The Fargodome was the next stop for the Timberwolves. Players stretched, warmed up, and shot some hoops, getting ready for Fargo fans.

J.J. Barea, Timberwolves Player: "I think it’s good for the fans from here, the people who live here, bring a NBA game here."

Perhaps the best part of the visit, player Nikola Pekovic and mascot Crunch stopped by Sanford's Children's Hospital.

Shy smiles spread on children's faces, meeting their favorite player for the first time.

Christine Lawson, Pekovic Visited Son Isaiah: “Not a lot of fun things going on up here, so it's nice to have special visitors."

Nikola Pekovic, Timberwolves Player: "It means a lot for all these kids, to see some of us, to meet us, it makes recovery faster, and makes their day nice for sure."

The preseason game starts in less than one hour. Stick around for sports. Dom will have a live interview with Timberwolves GM David Kahn.
