Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Falling property values in flood buyout areas are causing financial problems for school districts.

The diversion authority finance committee talked about whether the authority is financially responsible for those losses.

The Kindred school district's budget is coming up short this year, as property taxes have dropped.

But some wonder whether it is the diversion authority's responsibility.

Pat Zavoral, Fargo City Administrator: “What happens if the legislature reduces property taxes, like they suggest they're going to do? And so, you're going to see another decline in revenues to the Kindred school district. Are we responsible for that, too?”

The authority made no motion on the matter, but plan to continue the discussion.
