Lake Park, MN (WDAY TV) -- On Big Cormorant lake south of lake park, a piece of history is salvaged at the expense of an old red barn.

The hidden treasure inside? An antique boiler that will soon have a new home.

Karen Garrity/Barn and Boil owner: "The barn was here around 1900. And some of the stories say it could have been a blacksmith shop and the boiler inside probably ran some of the equipment. So what we're trying to do is salvage stuff for the Rollag people and then get the barn down. This spring the gentleman from Rollag came to see if they could salvage anything from the barn and they were excited to see the boiler and the two drive shafts."

Bill Nelson/Western Minnesota Steam THeresher's Assoc: "We just don't want to see a boiler go to waste and get junked out. One person has mentioned we got a pretty large boat out there that we've talked about converting to a steam boat."

Karen: "We saw the boiler and all the equipment we didn't know what it was but we knew it was special so we locked the door to the red barn to keep things preserved and safe."

Bill: "We keep finding old tractors old steam engines tucked away in old barns that type of thing every so often."

Guy Tietz/Don Tietz Construction: "Yeah it makes it interesting to make everything work so you don't break it and get it out of here and come up with a way to do it."

Bill: "It's part of our history. Part of the history of this area. You don't have many uprights like this. They're not making these anymore. Maybe a year or two down the road you'll see it in operation."

Karen: "Well we're sad but we want to build a garage that looks like the barn and it's bright red. So we'll still have that little memory of the red barn."

The group is also trying to save a log cabin that makes up 3 walls of the barn to donate to the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Association.
