Becker County, MN (WDAY TV) -- He's been a fixture at the Becker County Sheriff's department for more than three decades, but now, come October 30th, Sheriff Tim Gordon will retire.

10-years as sheriff. 34-years with the Becker County Sheriff's Department. And 37-years total in law enforcement.

It's been a long, successful career for Tim Gordon. But he says now is the time to pack-it-up and finally focus on what comes first in life...family.

Sheriff Tim Gordon: "It's exciting times, my wife is probably going to wonder what it's like to have a husband at home during the evenings."

A wife, three children, three step children and five grandchildren. It's all the reason Sheriff Tim Gordon needs to retire at 57-years-old.

Sheriff Gordon: "I look back and I can honestly say when I walk out the door on October 30th, that I gave this county my all."

Since his time as sheriff started in 2003, Gordon has witnessed the complete remodeling of the sheriff's office, the implementation of a new dispatch center and increased coordination with tribal authorities, among many other accomplishments.

Sheriff Gordon: "I've had the opportunity to work every division within the sheriff's office through the years. From K-9 and patrol through investigator, so for the first 25-years of my career, I spent it learning the job."

When asked what he would miss the most, Sheriff Gordon said simply,

Sheriff Gordon: "The people, the daily interaction with the community. I've always felt that was important."

But now he says, he's exhausted. It's time. Time to be a bigger part of his family's life, to take care of his several horses and to finally hop on a boat he hasn't put into the water in four years.

Sheriff Gordon: "It's time for me to look at a new chapter and appreciate what I have."

Becker County Chief Deputy Kelly Shannon will serve in the interim spot until the county commission selects a replacement.

Sheriff Gordon did not make any recommendations for a permanent replacement.

The next Sheriff's election will be November of 2014.
